Jan 12, 2024

The 2019 Orube Garnacha from Ferrer Miranda winery has been distinguished with a Gold Medal in the prestigious international Garnachas del Mundo 2022 competition. This is a 100% Grenache red wine aged in a selection of French oak barrels for 8 months. Bright and consistent. Cherry red color and light intensity. The nose offers a perfect harmony of notes of sweet fruit, cherries, cocoa, with a floral and perfumed finish. The palate is smooth and silky. A certain acidity that adds freshness, emphasizes the elegance typical of the Orube wine collection.

The great journey of the Garnachas of the World continues

The 10th edition of this traveling competition was held in Olite, Navarra, on May 5 and 6. Nearly 900 wines were tasted by a panel of some 80 international experts of 12 different nationalities (Korea, Japan, United States, Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom, Andorra, Colombia, Uruguay, France, Italy and Spain). This is the 10th edition of this competition, which since 2013 has traveled through the great terroirs of Grenache: Roussillon, Navarre, Catalonia, Aragon, Sardinia, Languedoc, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Sierra de Gredos, Italian Marche… The next edition of the contest will take place in New York, USA!

The seventh most widely planted grape variety in the world

With 163,000 hectares of vineyards, Garnacha is the seventh most widely planted grape variety in the world. Emblematic of the Mediterranean countries, mainly in Spain and France, since between the two countries they have almost 90% of the world surface of this variety. Spain, France and Italy are the three main producing countries, but Grenache is very popular all over the world: North and South Africa, Australia, North and South America, Croatia, Greece, Lebanon, etc. In Spain it is grown mainly in the Ebro River Valley: Navarra, La Rioja, Aragon and Catalonia, but also in other areas such as the Sierra de Gredos in Madrid.
