Pedro Ferrer Noguer, President of Ferrer Wines, recognized for his work in the +500 areas of Penedès

Last Friday, July 12th, in El Pla de Manlleu, the third edition of Vinyamics was held, a pioneering initiative by the Agrupació d’Agricultors del Pla de Manlleu. This event has successfully brought together the most influential representatives of the wine sector from the Penedès and Cava denominations of origin for two consecutive years. During Vinyamics 2024, Pedro Ferrer Noguer, president of Ferrer Wines, was awarded the +500 prize for his outstanding work in the region. This recognition honors his efforts in the recovery and cultivation of varieties such as parellada and merlot in the highest altitude areas of the Penedès, where high-quality wines are produced at over 500 meters above sea level.

Additionally, roundtable discussions focused on climate change adaptation were held, featuring experts such as Soazig Darnay, who discussed the future of Penedès and how wineries are dealing with drought and climate change. The event was presented and moderated by Kiko Figueras, one of the driving forces behind the +500 project. The +500 Zone, located between the regions of Alt Camp, Baix Penedès, and Alt Penedès, with its center in Pla de Manlleu (Aiguamúrcia), has emerged as a prominent wine-growing territory over the past decade thanks to its uniqueness and the dedication of its vintners. This initiative began in 2007 and promotes the production of wine in vineyards situated at over 500 meters above sea level.

Pedro Ferrer, an economist and enologist trained at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the University of California, has over 40 years of experience in the wine industry. He combines his love for Freixenet with his connection to the land at Ferrer Wines, creating wines that capture the essence of varieties, terroirs, and climates from around the world. Since April of this year, he has also served as the president of the Spanish Wine Federation.

Ferrer Wines: Small Batches, Enormous Quality

Founded in 2019, Ferrer Wines stands out for its small estates in outstanding wine regions such as El Pla de Manlleu. This area in Penedès encompasses 574 hectares of vineyards, mainly Parellada (Montonega) among other white and red varieties, all situated above 500 meters in altitude. These wines, crafted under the enological direction of Albert Barceló from Cavas Hill, are joined by those presented in Rías Baixas with Bosque de Fuscallo and the upcoming “Palabras Mayores” in Ribera del Duero, under the enological guidance of Vanesa Insausti and Gloria Díaz, respectively.
